Waymo, Alphabet’s self-driving technology division, has entered a new collaboration with Toyota to develop an autonomous vehicle platform. The initiative will involve Toyota’s autonomous division, Woven by Toyota, to help drive the project forward.

Together, Waymo and Toyota plan to fast-track the adoption of driver assistance and fully autonomous driving technologies, bringing them closer to consumer-ready products.

For Tesla, this partnership introduces a new competitive challenge. Tesla has been a leader in autonomous driving with its Full Self-Driving (FSD) software, but Toyota’s entry into the space could accelerate competition in the AI-assisted driving market. However, some experts believe Toyota’s involvement could help validate the self-driving vehicle market, potentially benefiting Tesla by increasing consumer interest and confidence in autonomous technology.
