SINGAPORE — Millions of Singaporeans are casting their votes today (May 3) in the nation’s 14th General Election.
A total of 206 candidates from 11 political parties, along with two independents, are contesting 92 seats across 32 constituencies. The ruling People’s Action Party (PAP) has already secured five seats unopposed, following a walkover in the Marine Parade–Braddell Heights GRC.
Approximately 2.75 million voters are eligible to cast their ballots this year, up from 2.65 million in the previous election.
Polling stations opened at 8am, following nine days of campaigning. Despite early morning rain and an alert from the National Environment Agency (NEA) at 6:33am, queues began forming at several locations.
This is Prime Minister Lawrence Wong’s first general election since taking office in 2024. Key concerns among voters include housing, the economy, and the cost of living.
GE2025 also marks the return of in-person rallies, a key feature of previous elections that was suspended in 2020 due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Out of the 32 constituencies, 17 are Group Representation Constituencies (GRCs) and 15 are Single Member Constituencies (SMCs). Notably, five multi-cornered fights are taking place, including a four-way battle in Tampines GRC.
The PAP is contesting all 92 seats. Its main opposition, the Workers’ Party (WP), is fielding candidates in 26. Other participating parties and their seat counts are:
