Intel’s incoming CEO, Lip-Bu Tan, is set to lead a comprehensive overhaul of the company’s operations, with a focus on revamping both its manufacturing processes and artificial intelligence (AI) strategies. Tan, who is returning to Intel after a period away, plans to address several key areas to improve efficiency and competitiveness.
A major priority for Tan will be restructuring Intel’s manufacturing capabilities. The company has faced setbacks in recent years, including delays in chip production and challenges in competing with rivals like TSMC. Tan intends to focus on improving Intel’s Foundry division, which produces chips for external clients, such as Microsoft and Amazon, to better compete in the market for contract chip manufacturing.
In addition to enhancing manufacturing, Tan is also planning to expand Intel’s presence in AI. This includes scaling up AI server processors and exploring new AI-related fields, such as robotics and advanced software solutions. Tan aims to position Intel as a leader in the rapidly growing AI market by leveraging the company’s existing expertise and investing in cutting-edge technologies.
Tan’s leadership marks a significant shift for Intel as the company aims to recover from recent financial struggles, including a $19 billion loss in 2024. With a renewed focus on manufacturing and AI, Tan’s revamp plan is designed to help Intel regain its competitive edge and ensure its future success in the evolving semiconductor and technology markets.
