Former President Donald Trump has voiced strong discontent with Russian President Vladimir Putin in light of the ongoing war in Ukraine. Trump, in a recent interview, expressed being “very angry” with Putin, particularly over remarks suggesting a potential transitional government in Ukraine, which could undermine the authority of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Trump criticized these statements as not aligning with the direction he believes is necessary for peace in the region.
In response to the stalled negotiations, Trump also threatened to impose secondary tariffs ranging from 25% to 50% on Russian oil imports. This move would target countries still purchasing oil from Russia, aiming to pressure Moscow into agreeing to a ceasefire and ending the conflict. Trump stated that these tariffs could be enacted within a month if significant progress toward peace isn’t made.
The developments reflect the complex nature of international relations amid the ongoing war, with Trumpโs criticism highlighting the friction between world leaders over how to address the crisis in Ukraine.
