A cruise ship carrying 3,000 passengers returned to Singapore for half a day to allow Singaporean voters on board to participate in the 2025 General Election. Dream Cruises had notified guests in advance on April 17 that the Genting Dream would make a special return to Singapore from 7am to 6pm for voting, according to a statement from Resorts World Cruises.
The ship, which was originally scheduled to depart from Singapore’s Marina Bay Cruise Centre on Friday, May 2, at 8pm and return on Sunday, May 4, at 12pm, made the detour due to Polling Day. Voting is compulsory in Singapore.
Out of the 3,000 passengers, 2,800 were Singaporeans. Upon arrival at Marina Bay Cruise Centre, these passengers were allowed to disembark and vote, with a return deadline of 5pm.
A 70-year-old Singaporean passenger told Shin Min Daily News that she had initially considered canceling her booking but chose to go ahead after learning about the special arrangements. While some passengers acknowledged the inconvenience to foreign guests on board, many were appreciative of the cruiseโs effort to accommodate voters.
In appreciation, Resorts World Cruises offered S$100 in cruise credits per room for fully paid passengers.
